In 2009, we here at Kelly Concepts, LLC heard tale of legendary drum technician Lorne “Gump” Wheaton was teching for Jimmy Degrasso who was on drums for a summer tour with Alice Cooper. Jimmy was at the time, a co-owner of a drum shop in San Jose which carried the SHU products, so he decided to use Kelly SHU™ for the tour. Lorne Wheaton reported back to us that the Kelly SHU™ System never once had an issue during the entire run and he was convinced of it’s durability for upcoming tours. When RUSH was in pre-production for the 2010 Time Machine Tour, The Kelly SHU™ was there. From then on Kelly SHU™ products have been with Lorne and every drummer he’s teched for since the summer Alice Cooper tour back in 2009. We are so blessed to have Lorne in our extended family of endorsing technicians. Lorne has this to say about The Kelly SHU™ System:

Michael Miller

We are proud to have Michael Miller as a member of our extended family of Kelly SHU™ System endorsing Tour Professionals and Technicians. Michael consistently makes the Kelly SHU™ system a regular piece of his tour-ready set up, from Alice Cooper to John Fogerty. Michael is also current drum technician for The Hollywood Vampires.

Michael has worked with some of the most influential drummers in rock and roll today including Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper, Hollywood Vampires) and Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty). Michael and the guys from Alice Cooper spent a number of months as supporting act for Motley Crue’s Final Tour which spanned the entire globe.

John Aldridge has enjoyed a long-term career in the music industry as a touring drum technician and drum kit designer. John has logged countless hours overseeing the massive kit played by Bryan Hitt with the popular hit group REO Speedwagon. Not only is he an experienced drum technician, but he is also an artisan, publisher, author, and teacher. He has been a contributing factor in the drum industry for 30 plus years.

John has also become a world-renowned drum engraver, focusing on hand engraving of primarily Ludwig Black Beauty snare drums. The work is absolutely exquisite – each being a unique work of art.

Tony Adams

Tony Adams currently lives in Mississippi. At age eighteen he embarked on a musical career that has taken him around the world several times. Over the years he has had the good fortune to earn a living at what he loves – making music!

He is a veteran drummer with over 30 years of experience both live and in the studio. Tony is also a recording session specialist, hired by record labels, producers and engineers not only as a player but frequently as a drum technician. He does not confine himself to one type of music in order to retain flexibility in the sounds he creates for himself and others.

Tony is currently Kelly SHU™ endorsing artist Kent Slucher’s drum technician when Luke Bryan is on tour. For the main-stage and B rig drum kits, Tony and the audio team use The Kelly SHU Pro™ to support their kick drum’s dynamic microphones, and The Kelly SHU FLATZ™ to stabilize their BETA 91A condenser microphone inside the kick drum. Nick Engle

We met Nick Engle while he was teching the drum kit for what must have been the most demanding drum tech job on the road at the time…. Nick was in charge of Tommy Lee’s drum kit for the entire Motley Crue’s Final Tour worldwide – a more than 3.5 year continuous event. The drum kit, as you might know, was basically a roller-coaster platform which rotated upside-down during Tommy’s ride on this beast to the center of the arena – all while playing his drum solo. Being that the drums went upside down during the show, the suspended Kelly SHU™ kick drum miking system was the right choice for this application.

We are very pleased to report that the Kelly SHU™ system played through every show on that 3.5-year world tour, upside down and sideways without any failure or problems. Nick Engle has become one of our most valued endorsing drum technicians and touring professionals. Robert Menegoni

Robert Menegoni resides in London Ontario when he is not out on the road. He has been Drum Technician, Stage Manager, Set Carpenter and Tour Personnel for Barenaked Ladies as well as with the Crash Test Dummies during several world tours. He also payed percussion during the Barenaked Ladies’ Symphony Tour. Robert utilizes both the Kelly SHU Pro™ and Kelly SHU FLATZ™ in the kick drums he outfits for any of his current situations.

Robert is a Member of IASTE Local 105 and has also worked for Royal Carribean International in the past.

Benoit Brideau

Benoit Brideau met the Kelly SHU™ team at a NAMM show in 2009. He was getting ready to head out on the road with the Miley Cyrus tour. The Wonder World tour employed Stacey Jones on drums – Benoit would be his drum technician. After seeing the Kelly SHU™ at the show, Benoit knew this shockmount for kick drum microphones would be perfect for their use on the tour. The SHU™ system went into the main stage drum kit during pre-production and through the 56-show tour, the system performed flawlessly. Since the Wonder World tour, Benoit had also utilized the Kelly SHU™ into the drum kit for the subsequent Miley Cyrus Bangerz Tour.

Benoit resides in Las Vegas Nevada. His place houses a top notch rehearsal studio, Bencins Production, LTD which boasts clients ranging from Alicia Keys to Slash. Benoit began his career in the music industry as a bus driver for Ozzy Osborne.

Rodney Powell

Rodney Powell
Endorsing Drum Technician

Rodney Powell has been a member of the Kelly SHU™ Endorsing Family since 2007. While on the road with drummer Todd Anderson of Heartland, Rodney saw a Kelly SHU™ system on a drum kit at a festival in Texas. He knew the product was perfect for use on the road. The coincidence happens to be that two days later, the Heartland tour would be playing a gig in Lincoln, Nebraska which is also where Kelly Concepts, LLC is located. Jeffery Kelly met with Rodney, Todd and the rest of the band that day and the rest is history.

Rodney is not only an endorsing technician, but he is also an avid drummer and assumed the role of endorsing artist while playing drums with The Tennessee Three, the remnants of Johnny Cash’s old touring band. Rodney took several tours with the group in 2013/14, heading across the USA and up into Canada for some dates north of the border and took The Kelly SHU™ system along with him to every gig.

Lastly, we must give credit to Rodney for helping our R&D team with the development and refinement of some of our product line here at Kelly Concepts, LLC. Rodney is credited for helping us develop our Solderless No-Drill XLR Connection System, as well as helping our company out with manual labor and celebrity representation at trade shows and conferences. We value Rodney’s support and very much love having him as a huge part of our extended family.

Brian Parkos

The Kelly SHU™ team first met Brian Parkos when he was out on tour with Kenny Rogers in 2010. He and the audio team for the tour was internally supporting a Beyer-Dynamic M88 microphone on the Kelly SHU Pro™ for the kick drum channel. The tour played dozens of shows across the USA that year and the Kelly SHU™ had no issues at all along the way.

Brian Parkos is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, studying Music Business and Recording Technology. He lives in Madison Wisconsin currently doing Audio Installations with Elite A/V and Automation.

Tod “T” Burr

Phoenix-Area resident Tod “T” Burr is one of our Kelly SHU™ system dual-endorsers. Not only does Tod play drums in many bands around the Arizona area, but he’s also been on the road as drum technicians for many well-known Drummers with International production schedules and world tours. We first met Tod Burr while he was on the road working as drum technician for Rick Allen w/ Def Leppard around 2009-2010. The electronic kit was triggered for the house audio however the microphone which was feeding the monitor mix was supported by a Kelly SHU™ Pro shock-mount system. The installation traveled and worked perfectly without fail for the duration of two International tours.

Tod “T” Burr was born in Yonkers, New York and right from the beginning was trouble with a capital T. From banging on pots and pans, to climbing trees, riding motorcycles and generally giving his mother gray hair way too early, Tod’s earliest memories are of multiple visits to the emergency room. While in high school he discovered a natural ability to keep time and a drum set was bought with money made from working at a gas station and swimsuit modeling. In college at Arizona State University he discovered alcohol. Combining the two was a no brainer. Much of the 80’s was spent in various cover bands all around the southwest. Many years, many bands, many beers and many embarrassing hairstyles later, Tod’s career in the 90’s and early 2000’s flourished with several national and international tours, sometimes playing as many as 150 shows per year, garnering him drum endorsements and indie record deals while somehow holding down a full time job. Today he continues to play in various original and cover bands, while teching for international bands as well. And he still has time for riding motorcycles, drinking beers and banging on pots and pans.

Speaking of his work in television, Tod was involved in the production of the following TV commercial that might be familiar to you. Yamaha Drums had enlisted Tod to help build the exhibit drum kits for many of the NAMM shows held in Anaheim California every January. Yamaha Drums was involved in this Lexus Automobile commercial. Tod, along with another acquaintance of ours at Yamaha Drums Greg Crane, helped tech and set-up all the drums used in the filming sequences for the final production.

Gene Provencio

Gene Provencio has been in involved with entertainment for the past 20 years. 

During that time he was the Artist Relations Director for Tama Drums 1999 to 2007.
In 2007, Gene founded Pro Cymbal, Inc. His first tech gig was with Slash, with Jason Bonham on drums, in Norway. He has also had the privilege of touring with Ozzy, Rob Zombie, Sublime with Rome, Sting, Stevie Nicks, Lionel Richie, The Cult and Boston. Benjamin Rigby has been Monitor Engineer with Eric Church for the last 10 years running. Previous to landing the position with Eric Church, Ben worked with Mason Sound out of Jacksonville Illinois and Harvest Productions out of Kansas City Missouri.
Benjamin is currently mixing monitors on a Yamaha Rivage PM7 console. The Eric Church tour also uses Ultimate Ears for their IEM system.

William Coats

William is currently drum technician for Craig Wright, drummer with Eric Church. William maintains Craig’s extraordinary skull-etched smokey acrylic SJC Custom Drums touring kit while the show is out on the road. The set-up includes a Kelly SHU Pro™ inside the primary bass drum as well as the floor tom, which support their audio team’s current dynamic microphones of choice.

Tim ‘ Pappa Smurf ‘ Lawrence

We first met Tim Pappa Smurf Lawrence in the summer of 2008 while he was on tour mixing Front Of House audio for the band Poison, with endorsing drummer Rikki Rocket behind the kit. Through the product endorsement of Rikki, Tim was introduced to The Kelly SHU ™ during the tour with headling act Def Leppard (coincidentally, endorsing drum tech Tod Burr was also on the same tour, teching for drummer Rick Allen).

Since that 2008 tour Pappa Smurf has been using the Kelly SHU™ to support his bass drum and larger tom drum microphones for all his live rigs. Now mixing F.O.H. for the band Chicago, his past credits include working with The Cult, Devin Townsend Project, The Spinners, Mickey Hart Band, Black Star Riders and Mickey Hughes.

Antonio Geary

Antonio Geary is the current drum technician for Brian Frazier-Moore w/ P!nk Tours. Past experience includes touring with Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, HER, SZA, Janet Jackson and Charlie Puth. Antonio has also been involved in Grammy and Oscars ceremonies.
We met Antonio this summer 2023 while he was out on the road with P!nk. He mentioned to us that he’ll never do another tour again without the help of The Kelly SHU system. We appreciate the support and look forward to many years of working together.
